So, with enthusiasm and determination, Rrustem returned to Kosovo with the Gecaj family and purchased the NBI Rahoveci winery renaming it Stone Castle Vineyards and Winery. Before the war, Kosovo had over 9000 hectares of vineyards with over a 2000 year history of winemaking. In 2008, Kosovo was recognized as an independent state.

Norton Chief Winemaker David Bonomi grew up in Argentina surrounded by vines, as his father had his own vineyards.

The estate’s history began with Scottish pioneer John Riddoch, who founded the estate in 1891, planted vineyards, and built and completed the estate’s famous stone, three-gabled winery in 1896, called Chateau Comaum. Although there were no wine vineyards as far as the eye could see, Sue always felt a connection to the land.
