Today there are 220 members (90 families) and 196 hectares of vineyards. All the families tend the vineyards with passion and dedication that transcends to the wines they make. Their son Daniel joined the team in 2007 and was involved in taking steps to direct the estate towards biodynamic farming and organic production.

Some of the oldest wine areas in Bordeaux exist in this rural region with its gently rolling hills and fields of endless vineyards. Bordeaux has approximately 111,200 hectares of vineyards and is France’s largest AOC. With over 950 producers here, there is a lot of diversity geographically and in the wine.

Practicing sustainability, the grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards in Colchagua Valley, Chile, where the winery is located. It is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.

Melrose Vineyards is located on the bench of the South Umpqua River where once stood an early French Settlement. Melrose Vineyards’ owners (Wayne and the late Deedy Parker) arrived in 1996 to make Umpqua Valley Wine. The original vineyard of 82 acres was planted in the summer of 1996. Trella Vineyards.

After 11 years as a coastal science and policy specialist in Boston, Chantal Lefebvre and her husband Mike Newman moved to Northwest Michigan in 2007 to be closer to family that’d recently relocated there. Lefebvre and Newman first sowed the fruits of WaterFire Vineyards in 2009, after purchasing the 26-acre farm property.
