So, with enthusiasm and determination, Rrustem returned to Kosovo with the Gecaj family and purchased the NBI Rahoveci winery renaming it Stone Castle Vineyards and Winery. Before the war, Kosovo had over 9000 hectares of vineyards with over a 2000 year history of winemaking. In 2008, Kosovo was recognized as an independent state.

So I was quite excited to taste this producer’s rosé The wine is a blend of 67% Syrah and 33% Mourvèdre grapes sourced from the stony limestone vineyards located in the hills above the bay of Marseille, next to Provence. Leitz Pinot Noir Rosé Trocken 2018. This sparkling wine is elegant and fun to drink.

Interestingly, the Georgians call “blends” those wines made from the same grape harvested over many vineyards. Diora 2018 La Grand Majesté Pinot Noir, San Bernabe AVA??. A rare appellation (AVA) with only one vineyard and one owner, San Bernabe is tucked under the Santa Lucia Mountains in Monterey County.
