Working together, Italo and Sergio replanted the vineyards and restored the farmstead. I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with Sergio a few months ago at a winemaker luncheon for a vertical tasting of six Rocca delle Macie’s historic cru wines made exclusively with grapes grown in their Fizzano estate vineyard.

Working together, Italo and Sergio replanted the vineyards and restored the farmstead. The vineyards have an excellent southern exposure at 985-623 feet above sea level and the mild Mediterranean climate contributes to maintaining the balance of the grapes acidity, sugar and aromas. They are library wines that still make a statement.

In 2005, they sold a large proportion of their shares to their management team, and in 2013, the company became part of the Mondodelvi S.p.A. The grapes for these wines are sourced from vineyards located on a hilly ridge that stretches from Acqui terme to Santo Stefano Belbo at an altitude between 250 and 400 meters above sea level.

More than half of all the vineyard areas in the Mosel, Rheingau, and Mittelrhein are planted with Riesling. VDP is not part of the official German wine law.

The box contained two bottles of rosé, one from California, the other from Languedoc Roussillon, and a variety of tinned fish sourced from Galicia, Spain. His dream was to have his own family-owned winery, so in 2005 he began making wines under the label ‘Joseph Carr.’ And now a word about the tinned fish!

His dream was to have a family-owned winery, so in 2005 he began making wines under the label ‘Joseph Carr.” Practicing sustainability, the grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards in Colchagua Valley, Chile, where the winery is located. It is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.

First, most are dedicated family owned or boutique wineries that pride themselves on their vineyards and winemaking skills. The owners of Thacher Winery and Vineyard met in 1992, but it was not until 2008 they decided to move to Paso Robles and open a winery that specializes in native Rhone as well as California varieties.
