Documentation shows that around the third century BC, an official deed showed the sale of a wine vineyard of one hectare proving evidence of viticulture in the Ragusa region. Soils are mostly clay and limestone, with more sandy-loamy soil in the lower-lying vineyards closer to the coast. One can feel the deep history and roots here.

With thirteen wine regions and over 102,000 hectares of vineyards, Germany boasts the world’s largest vineyard area of 23,000 hectares dedicated to Riesling! More than half of all the vineyard areas in the Mosel, Rheingau, and Mittelrhein are planted with Riesling. VDP is not part of the official German wine law.

Built in 2003, the winery overlooks beautifully maintained vineyards and is filled with new, state-of-the-art, and expensive looking equipment. The next morning, I arrived at the beautiful winery she shares with her sister Laura.
