The James Beard Award is considered one of the biggest honors in the restaurant industry. Amid unprecedented chaos that shuttered thousands of restaurants across the country, the organization canceled its ceremonies in 2020 and 2021. Media awards nominees, covering books and food journalism, will be revealed on May 7.
The regional best chef categories have also been reconfigured, with California, New York, and Texas each getting their own categories, in hopes of recognizing a broader geographic range of winners.
