Domino's gets into a New York state of mind with new pizza

New York City built its pizza reputation on foldable slices topped with sauce and cheese. Recently, the big chains are getting in on the action and New York-style pizza is spreading across the country.

Domino’s Pizza is introducing New York Style Pizza systemwide to over 20,000 locations, the Ann Arbor, Michigan, chain announced Monday.

The pies start with a stretched dough that bakes up into a larger pizza with a thinner crust. The big slices and flexible crust make it easy to fold the pizza while standing up to eat like New Yorkers do. New York City slice shops popularized the style, but recently, it’s been spreading across the country thanks to several major pizza chains.

Papa Johns debuted a New York-style pizza back in 2021, which won over customers who appreciated the larger size slices and stretched dough. Pizza Hut actually launched its version, the Big New Yorker, in 1999, but brought it back last year in response to fan pressure on social media.

Domino’s is getting into its New York state of mind with a pizza made with fresh dough, stretched thin by hand and once baked, can be cut into six big foldable slices. The basic pie is topped with sauce and a blend of mozzarella and provolone cheeses, but as with any pizza, customers can add their favorite toppings.

“Domino's prides itself on offering a variety of pizza crusts for all different tastes,” said Russell Weiner, Domino's CEO, in a statement. “Our pizza chefs created this new pizza crust to allow the deliciousness of our ingredients to shine through. It has the perfect balance of crust, sauce, cheese and toppings in every bite, making it the star of the show. New York Style Pizza may become our customers' new favorite crust.”

Several deals are available to promote the launch of Domino’s New York Style Pizza.

Guests can purchase a large three-topping pizza for $10.99 or order two or more menu items (including medium two-topping New York Style Pizzas) for $6.99.

And Domino’s Rewards members may redeem 60 points for a free medium two-topping New York Style Pizza.
