On Friday, Michelin released the 39th edition of its “Main Cities of Europe” dining guide, which covers 39 cities in 23 European countries. The French tire company has vowed to continue rating restaurants despite the coronavirus pandemic, and Michelin’s latest features 24 three-star restaurants, 94 two-star restaurants, and 380 one-star restaurants, along with 253 Bib Gourmands.

There are quite a few new additions to the guide this year: four of the three-star restaurants are new, as are 13 two-star restaurants, 52 one-star restaurants, and 41 Bib Gourmands. Ljubjana, the capital of Slovenia appears in the guide for the first time with one-star for Atelje, located in the Grand Hotel Union, and a Bib Gourmand for traditional Slovenian restaurant Na Gradu. The city was also included in the first-ever Michelin guide to Slovenia released just last week.

Another first: Krakow, Poland has a restaurant with a Michelin star. Bottiglieria 1881, which prides itself on using local products for its modern fine-dining dishes, gets one Michelin star for 2020.

The rankings are based Michelin inspectors’ work over the past year — prior to the pandemic — and even though some of the cities included in the guide have not fully reopened for indoor dining, according to Michelin’s international director Gwendal Poullennec, the digital guides are moving forward in order to “continue to shine a spotlight on chefs’ endeavors and to encourage our readers to relive the wonderful experience of dining out.” Look the full list of stars and more for the “Main Cities of Europe” on the Michelin site.
