Some days, nothing satisfies the soul more than sitting down to an uncomplicated meal of pure comfort food paired with bottomless coffee at a diner. In the South, diner classics like patty melts, gyros, meatloaf, eggplant parmigiana, and club sandwiches sit alongside Southern staples of fried chicken and catfish, biscuits and gravy, and eggy plates served with hash browns, grits, and country ham. Some diners even include dessert cases filled to the brim with decadent cakes and pies for ordering by the slice.

A good diner features a menu as long as your arm offering something for everyone, serves breakfast all day (and night), and keeps the hot coffee flowing. This is come-as-you-are, no-regrets, leave-your-troubles-at-the-door dining, and it always hits the spot. So, grab a seat at the counter or squeeze into a booth with friends and order up some tasty grub from these diners around Atlanta.

Home Grown

While owners chef Kevin Clark and Lisa Spooner don’t really bill their Reynoldstown restaurant as a diner, everything about the interior, the menu, and the characters who frequent this Southern breakfast and lunch spot certainly help it lean hard into that diner vibe. Much of the menu stays well within the $10 to $15 range. There’s even a Blue Collar plate special at lunch — a “value-sized portion” with cornbread and a drink. But the most popular dish is by far the comfy chicken biscuit. Home Grown’s fried chicken biscuit is smothered in a sausage-heavy sawmill gravy, and is one of the many reasons to visit this Reynoldstown neighborhood staple. Open Wednesday - Sunday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
