Maybe you are relatively new to wines or more advanced. Either way, maybe you want to branch out. For all levels of wine drinkers, here are some mostly level two wines worth considering to further your exploration or to fill in gaps in your knowledge of wine styles and wine regions.

2022 Tommassi “Le Fornaci” Lugana ($15) – A medium-body wine that can stand up to assertive dishes – firm and a touch heavy with good green flavors of kiwi.

2022 Langlois-Chateau Sancerre ($28) – Very nice with good complexity – apple and quince flavors complemented by a savory, dry-wood under-taste.

2019 Askaneli “Muza” Georgis Qvevri ($32) – An orange wine, with wisps of molasses flavors and lots of assorted fruit up front, but then quickly morphs to a savory, woody flavor, reminiscent of a white Port.

2022 Pali Wine Co. Sta. Rita Hills “Harvest Moon” White Wine ($35) – Quite nice, spongy texture with very fresh, tart-green fruit with a lot of lime.

2019 Far Mountain “Myrna” Sonoma Valley Chardonnay ($60) – Pleasant apple and fresh white grape flavors, a little spicy with medium weight.

2021 El Coto Rioja Rosado ($12) – An excellent food wine – dried strawberry flavors, lightly spicy, medium body, and good acidity.

2022 Pali Wine Co. “Sunset” Central Coast Rosé ($30) – Middle-of-the-road pink – not too heavy, not too crisp, with mulled strawberry flavors.

2019 El Coto Rioja Crianza ($17) – Smooth and creamy dark berries, light tannins, medium body, and good acidity – quite enjoyable.

2021 Rebellious California Pinot Noir ($20) – Very nice Pinot flavors of cherries and cola, although a little powdery, with nice body, a good finish, and modest tannins.

2020 San Felice Toscana Pugnitello ($47) – Fairly lean wine with a lot of fresh acidity, dried black fruits, and savory notes.

2018 Viña Cobos “Marchiori Estate” Perdriel Malbec ($108) – From Paul Hobbs, rich and concentrated flavors of ripe and dried blackberries, excellent fresh and neutral oak flavors with well-integrated tannins.

2018 Viña Cobos “Chañares Estate” Los Arboles Malbec ($117) – Delicious, especially after decanting for an hour – luscious but well-balanced black raspberry flavors with nice oak and walnut hints, with modest apparent tannins.

Prices listed are generally SRP or from wine-searcher.com. As more wineries are now shipping direct-to-consumer, check the winery website if you can’t find a bottle in your retail store.
