This edition of The Dozen is mainly about affordable summer pinks, mainly good quaffing wines. What more can we say, except more of the same is on the way?
2021 Inman Family Russian River Valley Pinot Gris ($40). Neutral to green flavors with good structure and a crisp finish.
2022 Capezzana Barco Reale di Carmignano Vin Ruspo Rosato ($14). A substantial pink-to-red with firm red raspberry and cherry flavors, good acidity, and some tannins.
2020 Garofoli “Kómaros” Marche Rosato ($14). Excellent food rosé – medium body with soft berry flavors alongside citrus and mineral notes and a crisp finish.
2022 Masseria Li Veli “Torrerose” Salento Negroamaro Rosato ($15). Very light on the palate with citrus flavors and some brioche notes with light tannins and good acidity in the finish.
2022 Scaia Veneto Rondinella Rosato ($15). Very tasty, with creamy strawberry and citrus flavors, but with a good edge of acidity.
2022 Château du Berne “Romance’ Mediterranée Rosé ($17). Light citrus and strawberry flavors – good, but needs a bit more structure.
2022 Ultimate Provence Côtes de Provence Rosé ($22). A fairly complex, somewhat elegant pink with the flavors all at the end – orange citrus with a dollop of bubblegum.
2022 Masseria Li Veli “Susumaniello” Salento Rosato ($23). Light-colored with very fresh orange citrus flavors at the beginning, joined by lightly sweeter red raspberries in the finish – a very good sipping wine.
2022 Château de Berne “Inspiration” Côtes de Provence Rosé ($24). Nice citrus and berry flavors with a satisfying, crisp finish.
NV Domaine Chandon California Brut Rosé ($21). Floral aromas and flavors – the soft fruitiness of strawberries with an assertive citrus finish. Very nice.
NV Ayala Champagne Brut Majeur ($35). Delightful – lots of fine bubbles, flavors of tart apples and grapefruit with crisp acidity and stony minerality.
2018 Inman Family “Inman Sisters” Russian River Valley Ultra Brut Luxe Cuvée Sparkling Wine ($78). It’s worth all those words and the price – a complex and well-balanced sparkler with generous yet firm apple flavors, some vanilla, some metallic minerality, lightly tannic, with a crisp but not tart finish.
