Only a few years ago, hybrid working wasn’t something that many business owners had to think about, and it wasn’t something that many employees asked for (even if they might have wanted to work in this way, they would just have assumed it was not possible). Today, however, things have changed, and some employees won’t take on any work that isn’t done remotely.
While there are indeed many benefits to remote working and a lot of businesses can thrive using this model, it’s not for everyone. It won’t suit all sectors, and it won’t suit all workers. So what can you do? Do you have office-based roles or remote ones? Which idea will cause fewer problems?
Luckily, you don’t have to choose because there is a third option; you can set up a hybrid working model. This means that your employees have the choice as to whether they work remotely or in your offices, and they can change their days to suit them and the work they need to do. 1. Better Collaboration
One of the best reasons for choosing a hybrid working model is that it offers much better collaboration options. Although working remotely in a team can work thanks to the many different software programs and apps that make this easier, it can often be the case that teams need to be together in the same room at least some of the time to ensure that all ideas are heard, and no misunderstandings are made.
When you have a hybrid working model, your teams can work in the way that is best for their current project. If this means face-to-face meetings, then offering them the space to do that is something that will benefit everyone and the business. Hybrid working is the perfect way to ensure people get the best work-life balance they can. Because everyone is different, some will find it easy to separate their home and work life, even if they are working remotely. However, some will find this impossible, and they’ll want to be in an office – it means they can leave at the of the day and spend time doing their own thing without being tempted back to answer emails or check reports, for example.
For many, however, it’s the hybrid working model that offers them the best work-life balance. If they need to be at home because their child is unwell or there is a special event they need to attend, or their car is in the shop, they can, and it won’t impact their work. When they are able to go to the office, it will be there for them, helping them make that important separation. If you allow your workers to choose and give them a flexible way of working that fits around their life rather than running straight over it, they will work harder and be a lot more productive.
3. Wider Talent Pool
The more you can offer potential employees, the more they will want to work for you. It could be that offering hybrid working where the employee is autonomous and has complete control over where and even when (in terms of the hours they start and finish) they work will mean you have a lot more choice when it comes to hiring the right people.
If you only offer an office-based role, you’ll miss out on great candidates who want to work remotely, and vice versa. When you set up a hybrid working model, you won’t miss out on anyone.
