Social media marketing seems to be the wave of the future. More and more companies are getting online personalities to promote their products across various social media platforms. If you choose to use influencer marketing for your brand, it’s important to identify the right platform to advertise on. There’s a variety of factors to consider when exploring different applications, and it may seem overwhelming at first. To simplify the process, here are some tips on how to know which social media to use for influencer marketing.
When contemplating what social media platform to use for your influencer marketing, it’s important to consider a variety of factors.
Here are some things to look out for when looking for the right platform:
- Demographic of app aligns with your target audience
- Your influencer marketing budget
- Format that best highlights your brand
1. Instagram
Instagram is one of the largest social media platforms with roughly 1 billion monthly active users. The platform is mainly made up of Gen Z and Millenials. With over half the users between the age group of 18-35, the app tends to have a younger audience. This creates the opportunity for brands to promote their business to a youthful demographic, as younger users are more likely to be active on the app.
The app has a relatively even gender distribution but leans a little more female with 56.4% of users being female. This makes the app slightly better for brands that are particularly looking to market towards women, such as beauty and fashion brands.
Surveys have also shown that the app tends to have users from mid to high incomes, making the platform a great place to market towards relatively wealthy younger females.
In terms of your marketing budget, Instagram prices tend to vary across the platform. The more followers an influencer has the more it will cost. The average seems to be for every $10 a post per every 1000 followers an account has.
Also, Instagram’s content allows for visually engaging advertisements, as promotions can be done on IG stories, IGTV, and traditional posts. This is useful for product promotion and visual aids. Through intertwining your brand with users feed, you will be able to flawlessly grow your brand on the platform
2. YouTube
Youtube has about 2.1 million users, making it a platform that should not be overlooked. Similar to Instagram, Youtube has a strong younger audience, but it also is gaining popularity among other generations.
Youtube also tends to have an even ratio of male to female users. One great thing about YouTube though is that you can tailor your marketing strategy to reach your target audience. Sports and gaming channels tend to have stronger male followings, while beauty and fashion channels commonly have more female subscribers. Through understanding the demographics of different niches and YouTubers, it becomes easier to pick the right influencer.
Due to YouTube’s longer video format, it can be a place to really showcase your product. Through product reviews, demonstrations, and unboxing videos you can easily highlight your business to a large audience.
The prices for your marketing on YouTube can vary. Sometimes prices are based on subscriber count, with the average being around $20 a video per 1000 subscribers. Other times, prices can be based on views, with people charging between $50 and $100 per view. This all varies by influencer so reach out to various people to find platforms that fit within your budget.
3. Facebook
With over 2.6 billion active monthly users, Facebook is the largest social media platform, making it a great place to market your brand. While all ages are on Facebook, younger generations are moving towards other platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat. This allows you to market towards all ages, or to the large older audience that uses the app daily.
Facebook has various ways for you to format your influencer marketing. You can use traditional posts, Stories, Facebook Watch and Facebook Live. Facebook is known for being a space to create community, so it can be useful to gain a following for your brand.
Prices also vary on Facebook but many influencers charge an average of $25 a post per 1000 followers. This also varies depending on the type of content the influencer is expected to post.
4. Twitter
Twitter is a slightly smaller social media platform with 330 million users. The platform is especially popular among Millennials. The app also seems to be dominant among men, with 65% of men having Twitter in the US and only 35% of women, making it a great place to market to millennial men.
The app has more limited content, as it has tweets or 140 character posts. These posts can have pictures added in and hashtags can help them increase visibility easily.
Twitter is a more affordable option when it comes to Influencer marketing. Influencers charge on average $2 per post per 1000 followers. Though it is cheaper, Twitter’s content is known for being quick so you would want to consider a strategy for an extended period of time.
5. Blogs
While blogs are not as large as social media apps, they still can be valuable for your influencer marketing. About 70% of people on the internet read blogs, so they are more popular than you may think. Bloggers tend to have a slightly older demographic with the majority of readers between the ages of 25 and 49 years old.
Blogs are designed to be personal and long, making them a great place to market your products. The narrative format allows the promotion to feel less like a paid promotion and more like an honest review and recommendation. Blogs also tend to have devoted followings and readers who trust the bloggers’ taste.
Blog post prices tend to vary vastly depending on the number of readers an influencer typically has. Many bloggers charge about $60 per written post, but again this varies. Besides the number of readers, posts also vary depending on the length of the post or what is included in it. While prices vary, bloggers are extremely valuable as they give you access to their close community of readers.
