Best Cookies in Philadelphia

Crust Vegan Bakery

4409 Main St, Philadelphia, PA 19127
Phone: 215-701-4230
Visit Website

Crust Vegan Bakery is a remarkable small business that does a lot to support important causes. It’s a vegan bakery with several options free of allergens like nuts and soy.

Every month, the bakery features a different donation cookie and gives the profits from sales of this item to a local non-profit.

During my most recent stay in Philadelphia, the donation cookie of the month was a delicious matcha cookie with white chocolate chips.

The texture was soft and chewy, and the combination of matcha and white chocolate made the cookie memorable.

Crust Vegan Bakery is on Main Street in the Manayunk Area. After you’ve had your sugar fix, head to the nearby Manayunk Bridge Trail to explore the city on foot.

Essen Bakery is a small business in South Philly with an amazing selection of traditional Jewish confections, including Challah bread, schmear, or Jewish apple cake.

You can also find assorted pastries and cookies available by the unit or box if you order ahead of time.

I recommend the black and white cookies with their delicious chocolate and vanilla frosting or the salted caramel cookies and their subtle combination and sweet and salty flavors.

Essen Bakery is in Passyunk, near the corner of E Passyunk Avenue and Dickinson Street. You can take a stroll to the nearby Columbus Square Dog Park while munching on one of their delicious cookies!

Another great Italian bakery in town is Isgro Pastries. This local bakery serves cannolis, cakes, custards, tarts, and more. Having been in business in 1904 and having won awards in the past, it’s obvious this is a must-try spot.

You’ll find a huge variety of cookies at Isgro Pastries, most of which are $19.95 per pound. We recommend the Pasticcini, raspberry-filled butter cookies, chocolate-dipped apricot fingers, almond dreams, rocky road cookies, or ricotta cookies!

Jezabel’s

Jezabel’s is an Argentinian cafe with specialties from the Northwest region, including empanadas, quiches, and pastries.

The fresh pastries are a major draw, and you’ll see many patrons sitting down to enjoy traditional Argentinian confections while sipping a hot cup of tea or coffee.

My favorites were the alfajores, a type of Argentinian sandwich cookie with a delicious cream filling.

This classy cafe is in the Spruce Hill area, near the intersection of S 45th and Walnut Street. After enjoying some Argentinian treats with espresso, you can head south to Clark Park or the Woodlands Community Garden.

Haegele’s Bakery

4164 Barnett St, Philadelphia, PA 19135

You can’t visit Philadelphia without stopping by Haegele’s Bakery on the corner of Erdrick and Barnett Street. This German bakery is a local institution that has been around for over 100 years.

It’s easy to see why the bakery is so popular. There is a huge selection of traditional German and Danish confections, the service is exceptional, and the quality of the ingredients results in sweet treats full of flavors.

If you’re in the mood for cookies, the bakery has a fun selection of traditional German jam cookies. These sweets combine the crumbly texture of a shortbread biscuit with the rich and sugary taste of fruit jam.

Small Oven Pastry Shop

2204 Washington Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19146
Phone: 215-545-2939

Small Oven Pastry Shop is a unique concept. It combines a small kitchen that serves pork sandwiches in a casual setting with a bakery that stands out thanks to its delicious and original creations.

The cookie selection includes classics like chocolate chip cookies, but the addition of sea salt turns this classic treat into a more elegant dessert.

I also recommend trying the unique ricotta cookies or the everything cookies, a surprising creation with a mix of sweet and savory ingredients like currants and potato chip crumbs.

Small Oven Pastry Shop is in Southwest Center City, at the corner of Washington Avenue and S 22nd Street, not far from the Queen Memorial Library.

One of the highlights of the menu is the brown butter chocolate chip cookie. Using brown butter adds complexity to this classic treat, and the texture of the cookie strikes a perfect balance between soft and crumbly.

The coffee and tea selection is another plus. It’s an ideal spot for taking a break from the busy City Center streets, enjoying a sweet treat, and sipping on some quality coffee.

You’ll find this cafe on S 19th Street between Chestnut and Sansom Street. Rittenhouse Square is only a block away.

Manakeesh Cafe, Bakery & Grill

4420 Walnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19104
Phone: 215-918-4812

Manakeesh is a popular Lebanese restaurant with an impressive menu that ranges from breakfast bagels to BBQ sandwiches. It’s also one of the best spots for cookies in Philadelphia.

If you’re in the mood for a classic treat, Manakeesh makes an excellent chocolate chip cookie. I also recommend the pistachio sable cookies.

You’ll also find an amazing selection of authentic Lebanese sweets that you can enjoy with a Lebanese latte. The coconut macarons are among my favorites, but the maamouls, a sort of shortbread cookie stuffed with dates, pistachios, or walnuts, are worth trying as well.

Manakeesh Cafe, Bakery & Grill is in the Walnut Hill area, on the corner of Walnut and S 45th Street.

Insomia Cookies

Phone: (215) 544-2989
Visit Website

When you’re craving cookies in the middle of the night, there’s no better spot than Insomnia Cookies. Aptly named, this spot not only serves cookies late at the store but delivers them to your house until midnight or later.

Choose between a variety of cookie boxes with different amounts and kinds of cookies. Be sure to try the blueberry cobbler cookies, bananas foster cookies, double chocolate mint, or order some cookie dough to bake later!

Recently, Insomnia Cookies has opened up their top-secret CookieLab in East Passyunk. The lab features never-before-tasted cookies on a secret menu.

But, you’ll need to check out their Instagram for the secret password to get inside. Located behind a bookcase in their shop, this speak-easy cookie shop is a must-visit.

If one thing is for sure, it’s that Philadelphia is filled with delicious cookies. So, the next time you’re craving a warm, gooey cookie, you’ll not only know where to order it, but what to order.
