Ever wonder how to create an image that will be pinnable on Pinterest?
Well, today we’re going to talk about how to create blog graphics that are pinnable and click-worthy!
Getting people to look at and re-pin your image is super important because you want to gain more brand awareness.
Because after all, the more times your image is pinned and circulated, the more traffic you’re going to get. That’s why we have to tailor the perfect pin to do just that!
Creating a Pin in Canva
If you haven’t used Canva before, no need to fear. Canva is a user-friendly website that makes graphic design simple.
Once you’ve created an account and are ready to start creating a pinnable image.
I recommend using the “Blog Graphic” template. You can find it by typing in the search bar.
From there, you will be able to customize everything from images, elements, shapes, fonts, colors, and so much more.
But before you get started, check out these 6 tips for creating successful pins!
1. Make The Title Attention-Grabbing
The title of your pin should be similar, if not the same, as the title of your blog post.
Making sure that your title is unique, evokes some sort of emotion, and solves an issue is critical so that your pin will grab attention.
A great place for testing out titles and headlines is CoSchedule. They score your existing titles and give you tips to improve!
2. Link To Your Website
This one should be a no-brainer, ladies!
You MUST link your pin to the place where you’re trying to send its viewers. Whether that’s simply your homepage, a blog post, or a landing page—wherever it may be, link it there!
You can also add a small description to your pin, but it is not seen often so don’t get too caught up on it.
Personally, I put the description or tagline of my website/blog in the description area just to keep my pins consistent and give the clicker a quick explanation of what my website is all about.
3. Create A Call To Action
While an image is just an image, you can still give it the feeling of being interactive.
Since the image can only link to your site, you should design it in a way that encourages people to click on your pin. You can do this by using a call to action.
Maybe this is a pin for a lead magnet, a new blog post, or even an infographic.
No matter what it is, create an image that prompts people to click on the post to send them to your site!
For example, maybe you have a “button” on your pin that says “Join Now!” if your pin is aiming to grow a list or “Claim my Prize!” if you’re giving a freebie away.
4. Make Your URL Visible
Additionally, adding your brand name or URL is a MUST.
This allows people to see the source of the image as they are scrolling. The more they see it, the sooner they will begin to recognize your brand.
It doesn’t have to be over-the-top or the main focus, but adding your URL to the bottom of your image or somewhere subtle is highly recommended.
Another perk is that if a Pinterest user were to download your image and refer back to it weeks or months later in their camera roll, they would know where the picture was from.
5. Pay Attention To Visual Elements
Many visual elements will also help you get re-pinned. It’s these little things that can make all the difference.
Color:
There truly is a science behind color and why people are and aren’t attracted to different colors and tones.
For the purpose of Pinterest, it is said that warmer tones (reds, oranges) get more attention and involvement than cooler colors.
Above all, I recommend sticking to the color scheme of your brand and testing out different accents and colors along the way.
Fonts:
Fonts are super important when creating your pins.
You want to make sure these align with the theme of your blog while also looking clean and consistent within your pins. Also, your words should be the focus without being too overpowering.
Size:
The size of your image is a huge part of it being pinnable.
In fact, most of the group boards you’ll join are probably going to require you to use the standard size.
The 2:3 ratio is what you should be aiming for—in pixels, that is. So 600 x 900, 735 x 1102, or 800 x 1200 are all pretty standard.
6. Keep A Consistent Theme
I’m sure you can think of at least a few brands/bloggers that have super consistent graphics. They are the ones you recognize as you’re scrolling.
This is what we want!
Viewers will start to identify your pins if you use a consistent theme.
Creating a pinnable image can be tricky if you are unsure about how to grab people’s attention, but once you start using these tips you are guaranteed to be on the right path.
This process is fluid and ever-changing, so don’t take yourself too seriously and make sure to test out some different ideas to find what you and your audience like best.
Best of luck!
