Are you wild about Viet-Cajun cuisine and brisket? Does exploring the background on the quesabirria boom intrigue you? Do you enjoy nerding out about kolache? Are you interested in growing your journalism skills and gaining firsthand experience reporting on the intersections of culture and food in the state of Texas, working with a dynamic team writers and editors? The Eater Texas reporting fellowship might just be the right fit for you.

Eater is looking for a Texas-based fellow to contribute to our daily coverage of the restaurant scenes and food culture across the state of Texas. This is an opportunity to pitch, report, and write for our sites in Austin, Dallas, and Houston and, when relevant, the national Eater site, and add to our continuing and growing coverage of the Lone Star State.

The Eater Texas fellowship kicks off in October and is a full-time, union position with benefits for one year. This fellow will have the opportunity to contribute various types of stories, from maps and guides to deeply reported features, through a yearlong program featuring extensive mentorship and training.

This position is ideal for early career reporters who already have some experience, but are looking to grow their skills and work portfolios with a job that goes beyond that of traditional entry-level and intern positions. Aside from intensive feedback from editors, fellows will also have dedicated mentors, exclusive networking opportunities, brown bag sessions featuring management throughout Vox Media, and the chance to attend one professional conference per year, such as those held by the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), Source Code Conference (SRCCON), or National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting (NICAR).

Bring your unique perspective, skills, ideas, and knowledge of Texas food culture to your application. Read more about the position at the Vox Media jobs board.
