Best New Cocktails to Make at Home

Making cocktails at home can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. We’ll skip the clever banter up top and get right to it. So without further ado, here’s what we think are the best cocktails to make at home. Enjoy!

Aperol Spritz

This one’s all the rage these days and for good reason. Whip one up for yourself and find out what all the hype’s about.

Glass: White wine glass

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. Aperol
  • 2 oz. Fresh orange juice
  • 3 oz. Sparkling wine (of your choice)
  • 1 Orange wedge (garnish)

Recipe:

  • Fill the wine glass 3/4 full with ice
  • Add Aperol, orange juice, and top with sparkling wine
  • Stir to combine
  • Add orange wedge

Bourbon Breeze

For those of us that like bourbon and whiskey cocktails, but hey, could use a little sweetness to make them a little easier-drinking. If you’re a bourbon or whiskey on the rocks kind of gal/guy, this one’s not for you. But if you like a sweet little addition to your bourbon, you’re in luck with the Bourbon Breeze.

Glass: 9 oz. cocktail glass

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 oz. Knob Creek Bourbon (or the bourbon of your choice)
  • 1 oz. Fresh pineapple juice
  • 1/2 oz Fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz. Re’al Coconut Cream
  • 1 lime wedge (garnish)

Recipe:

  • Fill shaker with ice
  • Add all ingredients and shake vigorously
  • “Dirty dump” into the cocktail glass*
  • Top with additional ice if needed
  • Garnish with lime wedge

*Fun fact: “Dirty dump” simply means dumping the entire contents of a cocktail shaker, ice and all, into a glass and serving it as is. Less scary now that you know, right?

Colada Fizz

Our new twist on a Piña Colada, the ultimate beachy cocktail. We add sparkling wine for a refreshing balance, so you don’t feel like you’re drinking tanning lotion straight from the bottle. We love a good Piña Colada, but they can be a bit much if made with syrup and sugary liqueurs. Mix this up to help usher in sun and warm weather, if only in your mind.

Glass: Tulip glass

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. Myers’s Dark Rum
  • 1 oz. Re’al Coconut Cream
  • 2 oz. Pineapple juice
  • 3 oz. Sparkling wine (of your choice)
  • 1 Orange wheel and 1 cherry (garnish)

Recipe:

  • Fill shaker with ice
  • Add the rum, coconut cream and pineapple juice
  • Shake vigorously
  • Uncap shaker and add sparkling wine to shaker
  • Strain over ice
  • Skewer the orange wheel and cherry and add for garnish

Negroni

This is another classic cocktail that has increased in popularity in recent years. This is a cocktail for the gin-lovers who enjoy a stiffer drink. A properly made Negroni is stirred, not shaken, and built over ice. We’ll teach you how.

Glass: 9 oz. cocktail glass

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. Roku gin (or your choice)
  • 1 oz. Campari
  • 1 oz. Sweet vermouth
  • 1 Orange peel (garnish)

Recipe:

  • Fill shaker with ice
  • Add all ingredients in a shaker, but STIR to combine
  • Fill glass with ice and strain ingredients into glass
  • Squeeze your orange peel over the drink to release the oils, run over the rim and place in glass
