Aziz Ansari’s ‘Master of None’ Will Embark on a Tour of London’s Restaurants

Master of None, Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang’s award-winning Netflix comedy, will set its third season in London’s restaurants and wine bars. The new series started production in spring 2020, according to Chortle, before being postponed by the impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic. That’s four years on from the second season. Ansari was accused of sexual misconduct by a woman identified as “Grace” in 2018, and though he addressed the allegation publicly in 2019 show Right Now, he has not made a direct public apology up to now.

Lena Waithe and Eric Wareheim will rejoin Ansari as the core of the cast, while Naomi Ackie, who recently won a BAFTA for her appearance in the black comedy The End of the F***ing World, is set to join for season three.

Master of None’s hallmark is its use of restaurants, which Yang has previously cited as one of the ways in which he and Ansari attempt to make its situations feel more real: “If it’s feasible with the schedule, we just like to go where we like to go because we feel that adds realism to the show.” In New York City, that ranges from spendy red sauce Italian Carbone and feted taco stand Los Tacos No.1 to The Four Horsemen. While using restaurants to enhance the world building of a television show is the opposite of groundbreaking, Master of None has nevertheless acquired a reputation as a barometer for a restaurant’s place in a city’s scene. A Master of None restaurant probably has “it.”

Ansari and co-star Wareheim have already provided clues as to where they might hang out. Ansari visited Clapton wine bar P. Franco and Columbia Road restaurant Brawn in 2019, while Wareheim has documented visits to the likes of essential restaurants St. John, Gymkhana, Lyle’s, and The River Cafe; 2020 hit ASAP Pizza/Flor; top ocakbasi Umut 2000; one of the city’s oldest restaurants, Wilton’s; and top fresh pasta spot Padella Pasta on Instagram. There’s no timeline on the new season as yet, with it likely to be delayed until restaurants emerge from lockdown and the buds can coo over some tortellini once again.
